  6.       This has been done as a service to the Moderator who felt that the
  7.       Echolist Coordinator was not doing enough to help him.  The
  8.       Echolist Coordinator is now able to turn the echo off again, since
  9.       he does not normally carry the echo.

  25.   This is the  International FidoNet Echomail Conference TELEMATE, paid for
  26.   by those systems which help distribute it;  so, let's try to help keep
  27.   costs down.  Its topic:  The Telemate communications programs, Giflink 
  28.   file transfer protocol, and all software/hardware directly related to 
  29.   the use and/or enhancement of Telemate communications.
  30.  
  31.                       1. Moderator Policy/Continuity
  32.  
  33.   1.  All rules violations are to be addressed ONLY by the Moderator,
  34.       Kerry Pierce, or Co-Moderator, Hawley Warren.
  35.  
  36.   2.  Questioning or discussion of Moderator policy in the open echo is off
  37.       topic, except that the Moderator reserves the right to post special
  38.       messages relating to such policy and rules from time to time for the
  39.       edification of all participants.  I welcome, will listen to and
  40.       consider, any suggestion or criticism sent by private hub or
  41.       host-routed NetMail.
  42.  
  43.   3.  The Moderator shall have the right:
  44.         a. To appoint Co-Moderator(s) or Alternate Moderator(s)
  45.         b. If these rules do not cover dealing with a way of being
  46.            annoying, to make a new rule to fit the occasion.
  47.  
  48.   4.  The Co-Moderator shall be given all due consideration and respect
  49.       as ascribed to the moderator.

  51.                    2. Message handling and restrictions
  52.  
  53.   1.  Messages must remain on the topic of this conference as described
  54.       above and in the current EchoList.
  55.  
  56.   2.  Foul or obscene language, personal invectives, and "widget wars" will
  57.       not be tolerated.  Widget Wars are especially repugnant and those 
  58.       types include, but are not limited to, OS/2 vs Windows vs DOS vs 
  59.       UNIX, comparisons of favorite comm programs other than Telemate,
  60.       and any unfavorable comparisons of hardware of any kind that 
  61.       is demeaning or insulting. Flames should go to the FLAME Echo.
  62.  
  63.   3.  Personal messages, chit chat and nonsense are not permitted.
  64.       Individual thank you messages are personal, and should be sent by
  65.       NetMail.
  66.  
  67.   4.  Encrypted, encoded or rotated messages, and debug scripts are
  68.       prohibited.
  69.  
  70.   5.  Messages in this echo are considered public domain.
  71.  
  72.   6.  Keep the quoted portions of your messages SHORT.  Excessive quoting
  73.       adds to expense and overhead.  Quote just enough to identify the
  74.       thread of the conversation for other users.  Use enough of the
  75.       original material to be sure the thread IS identified.
  76.  
  77.   7.  The use of visible ASCII (control) characters ASCII 32 and below is
  78.       prohibited in this echo.  Use of eight bit characters above 127 will
  79.       be permitted, subject to the following restriction:
  80.       -   No use of such characters to create "cutesy" quote boxes,
  81.           multi-line signatures, nor for purely decorative purposes
  82.           in messages.
  83.       This rule will remain in effect unless I get reports of system
  84.       disruptions or until FidoNet technical standards change.
  85.  
  86.   8.  Multiple line signatures are not allowed, unless authorized in
  87.       advance by the Moderator.  Signatures where the person's name is on
  88.       the first line, and their title or company position is on subsequent
  89.       lines are allowed within reason.  The Moderator will decide on a
  90.       case-by-case basis which signature lines (if any) violate this rule.

  92.   9.  If using an alias or handle, messages must be signed with a real
  93.       name, unless the Moderator is advised by NetMail of the real name of
  94.       the participant and the reason for use of an alias or handle.

  96.  10.  At no time will the echo be gated to another network without
  97.       prior consent of the moderator.

  111.     I have added some refinements to the Echo Rules, specifically 
  112. the section dealing with rude behavior demonstrated by widget war 
  113. messages.

  115.     I am a long time FIDOnet participant and I have witnessed the
  116. severe decline of message content on many echos I formerly 
  117. enjoyed reading.  Most of the noise comes from OS/2 vs Windows 
  118. type debates invading every echo I read.  Other debates are less 
  119. pervasive, but equally annoying.  
  120.  
  121.     Telemate is the subject of this echo.  It will run on any 
  122. properly configured system with any of the popular operating 
  123. systems that support DOS or Windows applications.  In my opinion, 
  124. which is the only one that matters in this echo, it is the finest 
  125. comm program available.  That means I am not interested in hearing 
  126. about how great other comm programs are.

  128.     I assume that you are in this echo for the same reasons I am 
  129. and if you are not, then you probably don't belong here.  If you 
  130. are inclined to make trouble, I will accommodate you.  I will not 
  131. allow the trashing of this echo by zealots, of any persuasion.

  133.     Lastly, as previously stated, the echo traffic will increase 
  134. with the addition of TMW to the lineup.  For that reason, I will 
  135. post the echo rules more frequently in the hopes of heading off 
  136. some problems.
